We initiated the Detroit City of Hope Campaign in 2007 when we
commemorated the 40th anniversary of MLK's speech: Break the Silence and the
40th anniversary of the 1967 Detroit Rebellion. Our goal is to create and
support the emerging network of Activists, Artist, Architects,
Community Gardeners, Poets, Environmentalists, Entrepreneurs, Block Clubs,
and all those seeking and creating solutions to the ills that have kept
our communities in cycles of broken down everything!

DETROIT SUMMER Detroit Summer is a multi-racial, inter-generational collective in Detroit, working to transform ourselves and our communities by confronting the problems we face with creativity and critical thinking. We currently organize youth-led media arts projects and community-wide potlucks, speak-outs and parties. |
 | Marygrove College Marygrove College supports ALL these values
and work. Recently we have moved in the direction of Urban Leadership
as a working vision at Marygrove. Part of this mission involves
partnering with the community on priority issues such as safety, youth,
capacity building and so on. We have an urban garden on campus.
Moreover, our Master's in Social Justice program incorporates a
praticum and project that specifically embraces "Another Detriot is possible."

 | The Shrine of the Black MadonnaDuring the Civil Rights decade—the 1960s—Reverend Cleage became increasingly Afro-centric in his thought. He changed his name to Jaramogi Abebe Agyeman and then developed an Afro centric version of Christianity, so he renamed his church, The Shrine of the Black Madonna. He contended that Christ and many of his disciples were African in origin and suggested that Europeans had captured and twisted Christianity to assist in their enslaving Africans. He argued strongly for African American control of their own fate. |

 | CRANBROOK PEACE FOUNDATIONThe philosophy of the Cranbrook Peace Foundation is rooted in the concept that conflict is natural. Conflict can provide an important opportunity for change and a violent response is neither inevitable nor necessarily productive. Conversly, we also believe that peace is a mainstream desire. A peace activist protesting a war and a soccer mom involved in the PTA can both play a role in promoting a peaceful coexistance.
Typically, peace organizations react to conflict as it occurs, and often attention is directed toward the confrontation rather than to the root causes of such conflict. |
